Man Found Housing Over 30 Guns Following Alleged Long Island Burglary Incident: Police

A Long Island man who called the police to report a burglary soon found himself in custody instead when officers found dozens of firearms in his home.

Ilya Ostrovskiy, aged 37, was arrested after he reported a home burglary to police, who found in their investigation that he owned over 30 firearms, authorities said.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, July 14, Nassau County Police officers responded to a call from a Hewlett Place man reporting a burglary at his home.

The man, 37-year-old Ilya Ostrovskiy, told officers that his home alarm woke him up, where he reported seeing three men running out of his living room and exiting his house using the back door.

The burglars allegedly fled the home in a red Jeep Cherokee and also stole Ostrovskiy’s 2023 Audi RS 6.

Ostrovskiy reportedly shot three times at the burglars as they fled.

A further investigation discovered that Ostrovskiy possessed the following firearms:

  • 22 semi-automatic pistols;
  • 19 assault rifles;
  • Numerous red dot pistols and rifle sights;
  • High-capacity magazines;
  • Ballistic plates; and
  • Body armor vests.

He was arrested at the scene and was given multiple charges of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a weapon.

Ostrovskiy was held on a $200,000 cash or $400,000 bail bond. He is due back at First District Court on Tuesday, July 18.
